GM site owner prepares to take down smokestack

The former General Motors assembly plant smokestack stands as one of the final structures still intact at the plant site on Janesville’s south side as demolition of the 100-year-old auto plant continued Tuesday, April 16. Demolition crews have cut keyholes in the smokestack, and the plant site’s owner, Commercial Development Company, says the stack is ready to be demolished soon. Commercial Development plans to clear and ready the mammoth, 250-acre plant site for redevelopment as a rail-served industrial park.
