A 19-year-old Stoughton man’s death this week was likely related to injuries he sustained in a traffic crash April 1, according to a news release from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred when a car driven by Skylair Buckham, 21, town of Milton, crashed into a tree off Dorner Road west of Highway 213, Orfordville, according to a previous news release from the sheriff’s office.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the 19-year-old man in the roadway with severe injuries, the news release said.

Initially, police thought the 19-year-old was the car’s only occupant, but they later learned Buckham had fled the scene.

Buckham was later arrested in Green County on charges of OWI causing injury and hit and run.

The 19-year-old died Thursday. An autopsy was completed Friday. The results are pending, but it is believed he died from injuries related to the crash, the news release said.

The investigation into the crash continues.
