Janesville Craig put up a 10-run third inning and went on to down host Madison West 16-1 in a Big Eight Conference baseball game Thursday afternoon.

Senior Noah Berghammer pitched all five innings for the Cougars, allowing one earned run on six hits while striking out three.

The Cougars’ offense made it an easy afternoon for Berghammer. After a scoreless first inning, the Cougars scored twice in the second and took command with their 10-run third.

“Our offense was really strong today,” Craig coach Victor Herbst said.

“It was up and down the lineup. We drew six walks and had two hit-by-pitches.”

The 10-run third inning included six runs scoring after two were outs. Two West errors contributed to that. Eight hitters went to the plate after two were out.

“That really opened the floodgates,” Herbst said.

Herbst was thrilled to see Cody Logterman hit his first varsity homer—a two-run shot in the fourth inning.

In addition, leadoff man Dan Blomgren and ninth-hitter Ross March combined to go 6-for-9 with two runs scored and four RBI.

“Those bookends did a great job,” Herbst said.

The Cougars, 11-3 in the Big Eight and 17-3 overall, are at Riverside Park to play Beloit Memorial at 5 p.m. today.
