The Janesville Jets’ 10th anniversary season began with a 5-2 loss Friday at the hands of the visiting Kenai River Brown Bears on Friday night at the Janesville Ice Arena.
Kenai River opened the scoring on a Filip Karlsson power-play goal in the final minute of the opening period. Halfway through the second period, Karlsson and teammate Sutton McDonald added two more goals to give the Brown Bears a 3-0 lead.
Brenden MacLaren got the Jets on the board at 7:04 of the second period. MacLaren found a loose puck in the slot and fired a wrister past the outstretched hand of Kenai River goalie Gavin Enright, who finished with 30 saves.
Jets defenseman Andrew Hicks made it 3-2 with a goal less than a minute later.
The offense dried up after that for the Jets, and Kenai River added two more goals in the third period. Garrett Nieto finished with 32 saves for the Jets.
The teams play game two of the weekend series today at 7:05 p.m.
