Brodhead needed just five runs in one inning to shut down Rock Valley Conference opponent Jefferson (0-1) in a 5-1 softball win Thursday in Jefferson.

The Cardinals’ senior pitcher Mckenna Young was lights out on the mound. She pitched seven innings, allowed just one run, struck out 16 Eagles’ batters and didn’t give up a walk.
