Being down a skater—or even two—didn’t bother the Rock County Fury at the Janesville Ice Arena on Tuesday night.
Dani Heitsman scored two goals, including one of the team’s two short-handed goals, and McKaylie Buescher recorded her 11th shutout of the season to lead the Rock County Fury to a 4-0 victory over Arrowhead in high school girls hockey action Tuesday night.
“It was a great game,” Rock County coach Luke Steurer said. “The girls came out hard and played the best first period all season.”
Maggy Henschler got the scoring going when the Fury was a player down. Burke hustled after a loose puck in the Arrowhead end of the rink. She controlled it and fed a pass to Henschler, who was in front of the net.
Kaitlynn Beyer made it 2-0 in the second period when she fought through two defenders and got to the goal.
Heitsman concluded the scoring with two third-period goals, including the team’s final goal when it was killing off a 5-on-3 penalty situation.
Heitsman skated from behind the Fury’s goal to the other end before scoring.
Steurer said the team had worked hard in practice on back checking and moving the puck.
“It really showed tonight with how much we were able to keep the puck in their end,” Steurer said. “They skated hard and never let up from the beginning.
“It was a fun game to watch everything start to come together and an amazing team effort at both ends of the ice.”
