The Rock County Fury finished strong Tuesday night.

Zoie Steig, Anika Einbeck and Alyssa Knauf each scored in the third period as the area's girls co-op hockey team pulled away late to defeat Viroqua 3-0 in a Badger Conference game at Stateline Ice & Community Expo in Monroe.

"We came out fast but could not get the puck in the net," Fury coach Luke Steurer said. "We talked about playing as a team after the second period, and the girls stepped up and came together."

Still scoreless four minutes into the third, Steig (Janesville Craig) and Einbeck (Monroe) scored just eight seconds apart to seize control.

The Fury (12-2-2, 6-0-0 Badger) beat Viroqua 6-0 on Dec. 23 but had to work much harder to beat the Blackhawks (7-5-0, 2-3-0 Badger) the second time around.

Viroqua goalie Abbey Severson turned away 34 shots in the first and second periods and 50 overall.

McKaylie Buescher (Milton) stopped 19 shots for her seventh shutout.

Rock County travels to Onalaska for a nonconference game Friday.
