The Rock County Fury extended their unbeaten run to seven games with a 6-0 rout of Viroqua in a Badger Conference game Saturday in Viroqua.
Dani Heitsman recorded her first career hat trick as Rock County (9-1-2, 5-0-0 Badger) pulled away from the Blackhawks. The Fury haven’t lost since Nov. 28.
Fury coach Luke Steurer said his team continues to build momentum.
“I think we’re close to rolling on all cylinders,” he said. “We’re looking to keep building on what we’ve been doing.”
Rock County out-shot Viroqua 48-15 overall and took the lead on Ally Burke’s goal at 10:03 in the first period.
Heitsman scored twice during the second period and finished her hat trick with a short-handed goal at 6:24 in the final period. Anika Einbeck and Sara Nerad scored additional third-period goals.
Maggy Henschler, the state’s leading scorer, had two assists to reach 26 points (12 goals, 14 assists) for the season. Goalie McKaylie Buescher notched her seventh shutout.
The Fury should be challenged this week during a nonconference tournament in Eau Claire. Rock County will face Appleton United and Beaver Dam on Wednesday and the Fox Cities Stars on Thursday. The Fury were ranked No. 6 in the state in a Dec. 18 coaches poll. Beaver Dam was ranked No. 5, while Appleton United received honorable-mention votes.
“We know it’s going to be a tougher tournament, but we’re looking forward to seeing where we’re at with some of those teams,” Steurer said.
