Sun Prairie’s girls basketball team moved a step closer to completing an unbeaten run through the Big Eight Conference.

The Cardinals opened up a 21-point lead in the first half and coasted to a 71-50 win over the Janesville Parker Vikings on Friday at Sun Prairie High.

Elle Moore scored 15 points to lead Sun Prairie (14-1, 11-0 Big Eight), which holds a two-game lead over second place Madison East with five rounds of conference games remaining.

The Cardinals shot 60 percent from the field—including 5 of 7 from 3-point range—to open up a 43-22 lead by halftime.

“They really made everything in the first half,” Parker coach Jennah Hartwig said. “We rebounded well. I didn’t think we gave them many second chance breaks. They just shot really, really well.”

Parker (6-10 overall) fell to 4-9 in conference play ahead of Thursday’s rivalry game against Craig. Julia Hartwig led the Vikings with 26 points against the Cardinals.

Tina Shelton added 11 points for Parker, which made 16 of 29 free throws.
