Clayton Kreger is trying to stay positive.
The Janesville Parker football coach won’t let another convincing loss spoil his outlook on what he believes is a bright future for his program.
Friday night at Monterey Stadium, Middleton overpowered Parker in a 46-0 Big Eight Conference win.
Parker fell to 0-6 overall and lost its 13th straight game. This marked the fifth time in six games this season that a running clock was implemented with Parker trailing by at least 35 points in the second half.
Despite the loss, Kreger remains focused on the future.
“Next week is Homecoming for us and another great opportunity for this football team,” Kreger said.
“We’re playing with a lot of sophomores, and they’ve done a good job of continuing to develop.”
Middleton (4-2) wasted little time taking control. The Cardinals scored on their first three possessions and also got a 65-yard punt return for a touchdown from Kevin Meicher that made it 14-0 midway through the opening quarter.
Kallion Buckner was the offensive star for Middleton.
The junior tailback rushed for 118 yards and scored three touchdowns in the first half. With a lopsided score, Buckner did not play the second half.
Middleton led 21-0 after one quarter and pushed the lead to 40-0 by halftime.
Parker had one drive in Middleton territory in the first half but it stalled just outside the red zone. The Vikings finished with 97 yards of total offense.
“I thought our offense did a nice job of moving the ball,” Kreger said. “We just couldn’t finish drives.
“That’s probably the most we’ve moved the ball this season against a high-quality opponent.”
Parker hosts Madison West next Friday at Monterey as part of its homecoming week.
