JANESVILLE

The season continues to spiral out of control for Janesville Parker High’s football team.

Friday night at Monterey Stadium, Parker watched Madison East score 26 straight points in the second half to rally for a 32-14 Big Eight Conference win.

East won its first game of the season and beat Parker for the first time since 2004. Parker fell to 0-5 and lost its 12th straight game.

Despite leading 14-6 at half, the Vikings fell apart the final 24 minutes. Parker fumbled three times and had no answer for East tailback Devion Clay. The junior rushed for 151 yards and scored four touchdowns.

“It still comes down to fundamentals,” Parker coach Clayton Kreger said. “If you don’t block and you don’t tackle, it doesn’t matter what else you do.

“I thought we came out that first half with good energy and were moving the ball. But a couple of turnovers the second half and some penalties put us behind the chains, and that took us away from what we wanted to do offensively.”

Parker took its first lead of the season with 8:42 left in the first half on Garrett Sanwick’s 8-yard touchdown run and Casey Vanderlinden’s two-point conversion run. Sanwick scored again with 2:52 left in the half to give the Vikings a 14-6 lead.

East tied the game early in the second half on Ian McCosky’s 66-yard touchdown scamper and took the lead for good with 6:30 left in the third on Clay’s second of four touchdowns.

Parker fumbled on its first three second-half possessions.

That put its defense in tough spots by forcing it to play on a short field. Clay’s third touchdown with 3:46 left in the third made it 26-14. He capped off a productive night with his fourth touchdown with 4:14 to play.

The Vikings managed only three yards of offense the second half and have Middleton next up on the schedule next Friday night at Monterey.

“We have four more opportunities ahead of us,” Kreger said of the remaining schedule. “Every opportunity is a great opportunity to play football, so I’m really excited for the next four weeks.”
