Gabe Rubine scored for the third straight match, and Janesville Craig’s boys soccer team improved to 3-1 in early nonconference action this season.

Craig started out fast, posting a pair of goals to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.

The early start has Craig head coach Garrett McCabe excited.

“We wanted high pressure up top, and our forwards did that, and everybody had a toughness to them tonight that we haven’t seen,” he said.

Evansville got on the board in the 53rd minute before Craig senior Isaiah Brown closed the scoring five minutes later to make it 3-1.

McCabe hopes the energy will continue.

“We have been preaching high energy all week long,” he said. “We have been searching for our identity as a team, and I think we found it tonight. Our game is a lot of energy, communication, speed and strength. Today we looked like a sharp, quality team.”

Keeper Ty Bienema racked up four saves.
