The Rock Valley Conference golf champions are one step closer to their first state berth since 2013.

Edgerton High’s boys golf team shot 311 on Tuesday at the WIAA Division 2 Big Foot Regional to finish second behind Mount Horeb (308). Monroe (355) was third, followed by Beloit Turner, which shot 369 to finish fourth and advance to sectionals as a team for the first time this century.

The Trojans beat Brodhead by eight strokes for the final team berth in next Tuesday’s Platteville Sectional.

Mount Horeb’s Tyler Crubaugh and Kasen Fager and Edgerton’s Kyle Wille tied for medalist honors with 2-over 73s.

Joe Forsting shot 76, Jacob Fox shot 79 and Alec Johnson shot 83 for Edgerton, which needs a top-two finish next Tuesday to advance to state for the first time in five years.

Brodhead’s Parker Johnson (86) and Dayton Oliver (90) and Evansville's Alex Hurst (89) secured individual berths to Tuesday’s sectional.
