Madison Memorial used its balanced attack to fend off visiting Janesville Parker 67-51 in a Big Eight Conference boys basketball game Friday night.

Memorial built a 34-18 lead by halftime.

“We had about a five-minute stretch in the first half when we didn’t score,” Parker coach Matt Bredesen said. “They built their lead to 8 to 10 points. It wasn’t anything quick, but they just grinded it out.”

The Vikings cut the deficit to seven with eight minutes to go, but the Spartans were able to pull away once again.

“Memorial has an extremely good chance to play deep into March,” Bredesen said. “They don’t have a couple of superstars like they used to, but they are very balanced.”

Robert De Long led the Vikings with 14 points. Brenden Weis added 11. De Long, Weis and Braxton Conners each made a pair of 3-pointers.

Kyle Yu led the Spartans with 14 points. Yacouba Traore Jr. and Kole Kerkoff each added 13.

Memorial improved to 12-5 in the Big Eight Conference and 16-5 overall. Parker fell to 2-15 in the Big Eight and 4-17 overall.

The Vikings concludes the regular season with a game at Beloit Memorial on Thursday night.
