Madison La Follette’s victory over Madison Memorial on Saturday gave Sun Prairie sole possession of first place in the Big Eight Conference boys basketball race.

The No. 2-ranked Cardinals seemed to celebrate taking over the top spot Tuesday night.

Senior forward Marlon Ruffin scored 31 points, Colin Schaeffer added 21 and host Sun Prairie scored the first 20 points of the game on the way to beating Janesville Parker 111-65.

“We just didn’t start the game with the type of intensity that we should have,” Parker coach Keith Miller said. “Sun Prairie is so athletic and so long. And they’re very disciplined.”

Sun Prairie is 15-1 overall and 12-1 in Big Eight play. Parker fell to 2-15 and 1-12.

The Cardinals made 11 3-pointers in the victory, including five by Ruffin.

Senior Chris Galvan returned to the lineup after missing a couple games due to injury and scored a team-high 21 points off the bench for Parker. Tremar Curry and Brody Dahlke added 12 apiece.

Parker hosts Janesville Craig on Friday night.
