Caitlin Catino drove in three runs and took away a potential game-tying home run to lead the UW-Whitewater softball team to a 3-2 win Monday over Coe University (Iowa) and to the team’s first NCAA Super Regional berth since 2014.

With one runner on and the Warhawks holding a two-run lead in the top of the seventh, Kohawks’ hitter Marisa Repp drove a pitch to deep center field. Catino ranged to her right and jumped to snag the ball as it went over the fence for the second out of the inning.

After giving up a run on Haley Jones’ RBI single, Whitewater pitcher Julia Camardo induced another fly ball to Catino to end the game.

Catino, a junior from Arlington Heights, Illinois, drove in two runs with a double in the fourth inning and added her third RBI with a double in the sixth.

Whitewater advances to a Super Regional in Bloomington, Illinois. The best-of-three series against Illinois Wesleyan begins at 2 p.m. Friday, with the second game, and third if necessary, scheduled for Saturday.
