Daytona Bryden homered and drove in three runs and Austin Jones pitched 5 1/3 innings of effective relief as the UW-Whitewater baseball team defeated the University of Texas-Tyler 8-2 on Saturday for its second NCAA regional win in Sauget, Illinois.

The Warhawks (33-6) totaled 11 hits and held the Patriots scoreless after the fourth inning.

Bryden’s three-run home run gave Whitewater a 3-0 lead in the top of the second. The Warhawks added two runs in the third and another run in the fourth.

Bryden went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and stole a base to tie program records for both career stolen bases (80) and stolen bases in a season (28).

Blake Maddox homered for Texas-Tyler to cut the Patriots’ deficit to 6-2 in the bottom of the fourth.

Whitewater’s Matt Wary scored when Cal Aldridge was hit with a bases-loaded pitch from Texas-Tyler’s Brandon Saddler in the sixth. A few batters later, Connor Schneider scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-2.

Jones struck out five and gave up one earned run in relief of starter Michael Kaska, who was pulled after 2 2/3 innings.

The Warhawks will face fourth-seeded Rhodes (Tenn.) in another regional game today at 10 a.m.
