It wasn’t the official Senior Day for the UW-Whitewater women’s basketball team Saturday, but it turned out that way.

Seniors Malia Smith, Brooke Trewyn and Andrea Meinert scored 12 of the Warhawks’ final 15 points to overcome a 63-61 deficit and pull out a 76-67 victory at Menomonie.

Trewyn, a Whitewater High grad, hit a layup to give the Warhawks a 66-63 lead and Meinert converted a three-point play with 1:23 left to put Whitewater ahead 69-63.

Trewyn finished with a team-high 17 points and added six rebounds, four steals and two blocks. She hit four straight free throws in the final 26 seconds to seal the victory.

Meinert finished with 13 points, including the basket that tied the game at 63-all.

The No. 15-ranked Warhawks (3-1 in the WIAC, 13-2 overall) play at Stevens Point on Wednesday.
