On “thumbs up” to no youth suicides in Rock County (Monday): That’s very misleading as was the article that was written previously about it. No successful youth suicides, but there have been plenty of attempted youth suicides that parents need to be diligent looking for.
On Briar Crest neighborhood: I’m looking to buy an upscale house in Janesville, but Briar Crest is the last place I would buy. I don’t like snooty neighbors that think they can tell other people what do and where to go and how to go.
On Foxconn: Any business idea put together by Donald Trump and Scott Walker had better be looked at with a magnifying glass. Foxconn was one of those ideas. He is giving away our lives, our children’s lives, our grandchildren’s and our great-grandchildren’s lives. All that money to Foxconn, and we can’t even fix our roads.
On anti-Trump news: Corporate earnings are setting records, job growth is phenomenal, and there are more manufacturing jobs than before Barack Obama took office. Border crossings are dramatically down, and food stamp use is down by 1.3 million. This has been accomplished in only seven months, but has any of this been in the headlines? No. Only fake news that is anti-Trump, and we’re sick of it.
On Charlottesville: It was rarely reported in the media that the first idiots did have a permit and the anti-idiots did not. The police failed in their duty to disperse the antis, which led to people in the streets and the subsequent events.
President Trump did tell the truth without thinking. The reality is one group showed up to be violent Nazis, and the other group showed up to be violent toward Nazis. Technically both groups were there to be violent, but certainly not a both-sides equivalency.
On NFL players kneeling for the national anthem: The NFL ought to wake up and kick these guys out of the league, and they will stop doing it. They may not love our country, but they do love the money, so they will stop immediately. Or maybe they’ll get so upset they’ll move to North Korea or Iran. We can only hope.
On identity politics: The Democratic Party has been engaging in identity politics for quite some time now. It’s divisive and it’s despicable. They demonize and discriminate against white males and then try to pit everyone else against them, and what has it gotten them? Minority status. They control almost nothing, and they’ll control less after the next election.
On Confederate monuments: The soldiers who fought in the Civil War, both in the north and the south, were granted veterans status many years ago. It has nothing to do with race. It has to do with veterans. Regardless, it’s history, and it needs to be left alone. Of course bashing the veterans has been going on since the Vietnam War. Now they just found somebody else to bash.
Who gave these worthless mayors the right to tear down our statues? They belong to the American citizens, not to some dumb mayor. Maybe we should tear down their houses and see how they like it. The people we have in power are getting bad. Left-headed people are ruining the U.S.
Whether they are from the south or the north, they were human beings and went in and fought a fight they believed in. They lost their lives. Please take them down with respect because they deserve it. They were young kids fighting these wars, so please don’t smash them. Put them somewhere safe, even if you have to bury them in a vault or something. Please have respect for the human beings that died.
On grass clippings: I thought there was a city ordinance against people blowing grass clippings into the street. I would like to see that enforced. Every place I drive around town, the streets are a mess. That could generate some revenue for the city if they would start giving tickets.
On traffic near post office: Because of the high traffic that turns at the post office off Milton Avenue, why can they not make the right lane at that intersection a right turn only? They have two other lanes going straight. It would increase traffic flow and eliminate backups.
