As we were glued to the TV yesterday watching the mayhem at the Capitol building, we heard how adults had to shelter in place, were lead to safety and how afraid they were as they were barricaded in offices and safe rooms.

These adults were visibly shaken by this experience. Most said they would never forget this horrific experience of being threatened with great harm in a place where they should have been safe.

If this is what adults feel in this situation, how do children feel when the shooter enters their school, shoots students and a favorite teacher? What will they remember forever when they have had to shelter in place or be led to a safe room?

We are already hearing what will happen at the Capitol to maintain safety; what have we done for children?
