I have watched Ron Johnson's crazed, red-faced and irrational diatribe against democracy on "Meet the Press."

He had the courage to appear on that progressive program but was practically foaming at the mouth while detailing why the will of voters should be overturned.

This once articulate Republican has clearly lost his mind and his soul to the ongoing mutations of the Trump virus. Maybe he made a poor calculation to sell his soul to the Trumpy conspiracy theorists as a down-payment for re-election.

If so, he had made an immoral and stupid gamble. He is betting against the wisdom and kindness of the majority of Americans who are moderate, caring and reasonable problem solvers.

Betting that America's future will be led by ignorant, mean people is a cynical and hypocritical strategy to hold onto power. The future does not belong to science deniers and democracy haters.

Our present lives and future prosperity heavily depend on a coalition of moderate Democrats and Republicans to pass the carbon fee and dividend, justice reform and other investments in democracy. Bipartisanship will get the job done. Too bad Ron Johnson has chosen to join the dustbin of history.
