In the last couple of weeks leading up to the sheriff’s primary election, Troy Knudson supporters have verbally attacked Gary Groelle supporters on social media. They called one supporter ignorant, tacky and disrespectful for asking Troy a question on his social media site. Another one of Knudson’s supporters called another Groelle supporter hateful, bombastic and pretty much called him a liar.

To be fair, one of Groelle’s supporters had a sign on his truck that offended some of Knudson’s supporters. I fully understand the candidate has very little control of their supporters, but Mr. Knudson took no action to stop these attacks.

On the other hand, Gary Groelle made a public apology to Mr. Knudson and his supporters. That is what GREAT leaders do. They take responsibility for the actions of their team. Great leaders give credit to others and will stand up for their team.

I have known Gary for more than 20 years. He has always been the standup guy and will always do what is right, even if it is not popular. Change needs to be made at the top of the sheriff’s office, and Gary is the right leader for the job. I am voting for Gary Groelle on Aug. 14, and I encourage everyone who wants a professional to run our sheriff’s office also vote for Groelle.
