Janesville, WI -- Margaret A. Nelson, 74, of Janesville, died peacefully on Sunday, February 25, 2018, at home. She was born on August 30, 1943, the daughter the late William and Genevieve (Collins) Carroll. She married her loving husband, Neal M. Nelson, on April 20, 1968, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Footville. They spent 43 years together before Neal’s passing on December 27, 2011. Margaret earned her Masters Degree in Education, and devoted 38 years to teaching Elementary School Students in Janesville and Northern Illinois schools. She was a faithful member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, and belonged to Christian Mothers Catholic Women, and was a Catechist Teacher. Margaret was proud that she had traveled to 48 of the 50 States, and to Ireland. Margaret was a diehard Cubs fan, and loved her dog, Maggie. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, proud grandmother, and wonderful sister.

Margaret is survived by her four sons: Matthew Nelson, William (Amee) Nelson, Jonathan (Joni Torres) Nelson and Daniel Nelson; three grandchildren: Matthew, Jr. and Addison Nelson, and Sawyer Nelson; sisters: Diane (Bradley) Shreffer of Nashua, NH, Sheila Carroll of Janesville, Angie (Jim) Fowler of Newburg, WI, Connie (David) Peterson of Janesville, Colleen (Darrel) Eggers of Janesville, Teresa (David) Nichols of Footville; sister-in-law, Lavon Nelson; and numerous nieces; nephews; cousins; extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother and sister-in-law, Gloria and Ronald Helgerson.

Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 280 Haberdale Dr., Footville, WI, with visitation from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018 at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY. Burial will be private and on a later date. For online obituary and registry:
