Janesville, WI -- John Edward Welch, age 66, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, Janesville. He was born on August 21, 1952, son of Emily Peters Welch and Edward Welch. John was raised in Barnstable, MA entered the Navy for five years, serving in the Mediterranean, followed by twenty eight years in the Army Reserve, serving in the Gulf War Shield/Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom Afghanistan, retiring as E-6 Staff Sargent. John married Donna Mae Halvensleben on October 15, 1983, in Central Lutheran Church, Edgerton, WI, they have lived and raised their family in rural Janesville. He was employed by Rock County for twenty three years, retiring in 2017.
John is survived by his wife, Donna, of thirty five years; children, Scott and Heidi; two grandchildren, Emma and Bennett; sisters: Louise (Tom) Murphy, Karen (David) Melesky, Jean Beeler, Susan (Dennis) Leffelman, Denise (Randall) Wellnitz; brothers, Michael (Denise) Halvensleben, and Thomas (Barbra) Halvensleben; mother in-law, Virginia Halvensleben; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and father-in-law, Harold Halvensleben.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at St. John's Lutheran Church Evansville with Reverend Matthew Poock officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery with Military Rites provided by V.F.W. Post 6905 Evansville. A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at Church.
