BELOIT—A developer announced it plans to add a new hotel in downtown Beloit.

In a release, Hendricks Commercial Properties announced it’s adding the planned Hotel Goodwin and Velvet Buffalo Café space at 500 Public Ave.

Hendricks Commercial Properties, which owns the building, plans to start construction on the project in 2018, according to the release.

The planned hotel will have 34 rooms and a fitness center plus a rooftop meeting room with an outdoor terrace, according to the release.

The new restaurant will offer chef-curated fare with ingredients from local farmers and “artisan” vendors, an extensive wine list, and will have the look of an early 1900’s European café, complete with a stone-lined oven, according to the release.

The Velvet Buffalo Cafe restaurant will be operated by Geronimo Hospitality Group, which Hendricks Properties owns. It will be open seven days a week and the will offer in-room dining, plus catered events on rooftop space planned at Hotel Goodwin, according to the release.

The building at 500 Public Ave. has most recently been known as the Vision Beloit Center and has been the home of Blackhawk Community Credit Union, Visit Beloit, Downtown Beloit Association and the Beloit Economic Development Corporation.

The development is across the street from the Ironworks Hotel and Merrill & Houston’s Steak Joint, which also are owned by Hendricks Commercial Properties. does not condone or review every comment. Read more in our Commenter Policy Agreement
