Janesville police are asking the public to help identify three men who took $436 in merchandise from Wal-Mart, 3800 Deerfield Drive, on May 1.
Police issued the appeal with three surveillance video images Thursday.
A police report states the three entered the store at 6:20 p.m. and filled a shopping cart with two chainsaws, two Paw Patrol toys, Pepsi and a hair straightener.
They took the cart to the self check-out and scanned and paid for the Pepsi while pretending to scan the other items.
A Wal-Mart security worker told police he was alerted by the Stoughton Wal-Mart of an attempted theft, along with photos, and the Janesville worker remembered one of them had been in the store earlier, leading to a discovery of the thefts, according to the report.
