Highway 12 and some county highways in Walworth County will see closures this week and next so crews can perform maintenance on bridges over Highway 12, the state Department of Transportation announced.

Bridges between Genoa City and Elkhorn will undergo maintenance, according to a department news release. The work will focus on straightening steel girders under the County B, Sheridan Springs Road and Springfield Road structures.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 12 will remain open while the westbound lanes will be closed nightly from about 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., according to the release.

The maintenance schedule for the bridges and suggested detours are:

  • County B over Highway 12 will be closed Monday through Thursday, Oct. 1-4. The detour is County H to Franklin Street to County U to Pell Lake Drive and back to Highway 12.
  • The Sheridan Springs Road bridge will be closed Monday through Friday, Oct. 1-5, and again from Oct. 8-12, with two suggested detours: Highway 50 to Edwards Boulevard or Sheridan Springs Road to Highway 120 back to Highway 12, or County H to County NN and then Highway 12.
  • The Springfield Road bridge will be closed Wednesday through Saturday, Oct. 3-6. The detour is Highway 50 to Edwards Boulevard or Sheridan Springs Road to County H to County NN and back to Highway 12.
