A married couple from Elkhorn are dead and two people were flown by helicopter to a trauma center after a car crash in the town of La Grange on Tuesday, according to the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office.

Dennis Hinze, 67, and Joy Hinze, 60, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Highway 12/67 just south of Sterlingworth Drive, according to a news release.

Capt. Dave Gerber confirmed Wednesday the two were married.

The other car involved in the head-on crash was driven by Matthew Kilroy, 40, of Fort Atkinson. A 15-year-old girl was a passenger in Kilroy’s car, according to the release.

The sheriff’s office received a report of the two-car head-on crash at about 4:27 p.m. Tuesday. Sheriff’s deputies and fire and rescue units found the two cars with severe damage, according to the release.

The preliminary investigation shows a 2011 Kia Forte driven by Dennis Hinze was southbound on Highway 12/67 when he crossed the center line and struck a northbound 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix, which Kilroy was driving.

Kilroy and the 15-year-old girl were taken by Flight for Life to a trauma center and “continue to be medically treated at this time,” according to the release sent Wednesday morning.

The crash is still under investigation by the sheriff’s office’s crash investigation unit, the release states. Assisting agencies include La Grange Fire and Rescue, Paratech Ambulance, Wisconsin State Patrol, Troy Center Fire Department, Elkhorn Fire and Rescue, Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office and Flight for Life.
