A small airplane that took off from Beloit crashed in an Illinois cornfield Sunday morning.

Reports of the crash came into the Rock County Sheriff’s Office at 8:18 a.m. Sunday, according to the Rock County Communications Center. The plane took off from Beloit Airport, 4046 Highway 67, Beloit.

Shortly after taking off, the plane crashed in Winnebago County, Illinois.

It’s unclear how many passengers were aboard the plane and if anyone was hurt.

A Mercyhealth hospital in Rockford, Illinois, flew a REACT helicopter to the scene.

Officers from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office and Beloit Police Department responded to the scene. Fire departments from Beloit and the town of Turtle also responded.
