A 17-year-old from Beloit died Wednesday after a single-vehicle crash along Highway 213 between Kettle and Smythe School roads in the town of Newark, according to a Rock County Sheriff’s Office news release.
An investigation of the crash found the 2012 Ford Focus the boy was driving drifted through the shoulder, left the roadway, went down a ravine and came back uphill before striking a tree and power pole at about 12:22 p.m., according to the release.
The boy was transported to Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center, Janesville, where he was pronounced dead. The release said he was wearing his seat belt when he crashed.
The incident remains under investigation. Rescue personnel from Orfordville and the city of Beloit responded to the crash scene.
