One woman is dead and another man and woman were injured following a crash on Interstate 90/39 near Janesville early Sunday morning.
The injuries to the man, 39, and woman, 24, were non-life threatening, according to a Wisconsin State Patrol news release. The woman who died, a passenger, was 27.
Reached by phone, state patrol declined to release a city of residence for the crash victims. The names were withheld Sunday morning pending notification of family, the release states.
The crash happened at about 4:30 a.m. on the northbound lanes by exit 177 near Janesville.
State patrol said a 2017 Hyundai Accent rear ended a 2018 Ford Escape that had two uninjured occupants.
One or both of the vehicles hit the median wall and stopped in the right lane of traffic, the release states. Then a Mercedes Benz and “a semi” hit the vehicles.
The three people inside the Hyundai were transported to a hospital, where the 27-year-old woman died shortly after arrival, according to the release.
State patrol closed traffic lanes during the incident.
The crash is still under investigation.
