A man died Thursday after his vehicle crashed into a concrete bridge abutment in Bloomfield, according to a Bloomfield police news release.

Police at about 1:50 p.m. responded to Pell Lake Drive at the Highway 12 overpass for a single-vehicle crash, the release states.

The initial investigation suggested a smaller sport utility vehicle was westbound on Pell Lake Drive before it swerved into the abutment, according to the release.

Police did not identify the driver pending notification of family. He was the only occupant of the vehicle.

Police believed speed was a contributing factor, according to the release.
