The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction today released its school report cards, which rate all of the state’s schools and school districts.

Although the report cards take into account more than just state test scores, those scores account for more than half of the total score in one way or another.

Other considerations are student growth, being on track for graduation, and closing the performance gap among different socioeconomic and minority groups.

Each school and school district is given a score and a rating in one of five categories: “significantly exceeds exceptions,” “exceeds expectations,” “meets expectations,” “meets some expectations” and “meets few expectations.”

“Alternative rating” is given to schools that have small student populations or don’t have enough years of data to get a score.

These are the scores for area school districts:

  • Big Foot High: 66.6, meets expectations.
  • Beloit: 61.9, meets few expectations.
