One person was killed and another injured in a crash on County G south of Janesville on Monday morning, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The two-vehicle crash—described as nearly head-on—was called into the county 911 center at 8:13 a.m.

A 53-year-old Janesville man was taken to Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville, where he was pronounced dead, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

The crash occurred about one-quarter mile north of Sunny Lane when a full-sized pickup truck driven by a 62-year-old Beloit man lost control on the slippery road, according to the release.

The northbound truck went into the southbound lane and collided with a small car driven by the Janesville man nearly head-on, according to the release.

Both men were wearing seat belts. The Beloit man was taken to Beloit Memorial Hospital in stable condition, according to the release.

County G, also known as Prairie Street, was closed until about noon.
