Bryan Steil of Janesville, who has said he is considering a run for Congress, is planning an announcement for Sunday in his hometown, a spokesman told The Gazette.
No other details were released publicly, but it’s likely Steil will announce he’ll run for the Republican Party nomination to replace Rep. Paul Ryan in the 1st Congressional District.
If Steil runs, he will face opposition from several other candidates who have already announced their intentions to run.
Those who file the proper paperwork by June 1 will be on the Aug. 14 primary ballot, when voters can vote either as Republicans or Democrats but not both.
A Democratic primary also is expected in the 1st District race. Winners will face off in the general election Nov. 6.
