For the seventh year since 2009, the Beloit Memorial High School Jazz Orchestra is competing in New York City.

The orchestra is again among 15 finalists in the Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition and Festival, which is held at Lincoln Center from May 10-12.

The competition features performances, workshops, jam sessions and a panel of judges, according to a Lincoln Center news release.

It concludes with a May 12 concert and awards ceremony showcasing the top three bands and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

The high school’s orchestra was hand-picked out of 109 competing high schools from across North America. Each high school submitted a recording of three Essentially Ellington library selections.
