A Delavan man pleaded guilty Thursday to benefiting from the trafficking of a 15-year-old girl and having sex with the teen himself.

Per a plea agreement, Octavion L. Keith, 22, pleaded guilty to the benefiting charge and a count of repeated sexual assault of the same child.

Counts of trafficking a child, child sexual exploitation and possession of drug paraphernalia were dismissed but read into the record.

Keith’s lawyer, Melissa Frost, said her client might have had a defense for the benefiting charge, but he wanted to take responsibility and move forward.

Delavan police obtained the teen’s phone March 17 and found advertisements that had been posted on backpage.com, which is a website for classified ads, according to the criminal complaint. The ads were sexual in nature and included prices for different time periods.

The teen previously lived in Chicago, where she said she learned about using backpage.com for prostitution, the complaint states.

The teen told police she met Keith, whom she first knew as “Tay,” at a Delavan gas station. The two smoked marijuana with others and eventually met and had sex, the complaint states. The teen at first said she was 17 years old but later told Keith she was 15.

Keith told the teen he could not get a job, so the two agreed to set up online accounts so the teen could take money from clients and run, according to the complaint. That happened the first time, the girl told police, but she also performed sex acts on people in exchange for money.

Keith kept the money from the prostitution, the complaint states. The girl once kept some money for herself to buy clothes, but Keith found out and made her return the clothes and give him the money.

Keith denied using the backpage.com account and arranging meetings for the teen, according to the complaint. He said he baby-sat the teen’s siblings for money so she could engage in sex acts.

Keith’s sentencing hearing will be at 9 a.m. Feb. 9.

The defense and prosecution will be free to argue sentence length. He faces a maximum of 80 years in prison on the two counts.
