JANESVILLE

Three cars caught fire and sent up large amounts of smoke at Samuels Recycling on Janesville’s south side Monday.

The fire was reported around 12:37 p.m. at 1753 Beloit Ave.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze.

Fire officials did not know of any injuries and said the fire’s cause could not immediately be determined. The three cars apparently were being scrapped out and were in the midst of being compacted by a car-crushing machine when the blaze broke out, a fire official said.

The Gazette on Tuesday evening was unable to reach company officials at a phone number listed for Samuels Recycling.
