Area kids will play a big part in this year’s Walworth County Steak Cookout, which runs from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, at the Walworth County Fairgrounds Activity Center, 411 E. Court St.
Youth involved in the Junior Beef Project help put on the event each year. The cookout provides funds for a variety of projects at the fairgrounds.
“It’s just nice to see the kids working and doing a positive thing, and that’s what it’s all about,” said Junior Beef Superintendent Doc Sterken, who organizes the event.
Cookout attendees can choose between a 12-ounce steak meal for $16, a 6-ounce steak meal for $12 or a $7 hamburger meal. Meals come with an ear of sweet corn, a baked potato, a drink and a cookie.
A bake sale also will feature cookies, pies and other desserts.
While the event tends to be the same each year, Sterken said the fact that people can get tasty food and help area youth at the same time should bring them out.
“We’ve been doing it for long enough now that I think people expect it and are excited,” he said. “It’s a good fundraiser for people to see all of the kids and the hard work they do.”
