COUNTDOWN to ELECTION DAY!

By JOHN EYSTER   Thursday, November 1, 2012 - 7:28 a.m.

COUNTDOWN to ELECTION DAY!

The Wisconsin State Journal published a reminder last month with valuable information for persons who need specific factual information. ALERT: Early absentee voting ends tomorrow. Our WI Government Accountability Board report, “Until the end of business on Friday, November 2nd, voters can go to their municipal clerk's office and fill out their ballot.” Be sure to check with YOUR own local municipal clerk’s office for hours! Our General Election is next Tuesday, November 6!

Voting at polling places takes place on our national Election Day, next Tuesday, November 6th from 7 am until 8 pm.

GAB Director Kevin Kennedy appeared on WPT’s “Here & Now” to share information about early voting and NEW VOTER RULES (forewarned is forearmed!) You can use this link to watch that segment online, “Kennedy on WPT’s ‘Here & Now.’”

The MOST comprehensive online resource for voters is the GAB’s “Voter Information Center.” Check it out!

I voted EARLY! Did YOU? Remember: Early voting ends when your Municipal Clerk’s office closes tomorrow (Fri., 11/2)!

SAME DAY REGISTRATION TO VOTE was NOT repealed by our WI Governor and legislature! They did, however, change numerous parts of our WI VOTING LAWS! YOU should read Steven Verburg’s informative article, “Little-known change to voting law could cause major headache on Election Day” published by the Wisconsin State Journal on October 22, 2012. Forewarned is forearmed!

I am very thankful that the courts have prevented the irrational VOTER PHOTO ID LAW from being used on this ELECTION DAY 2012! I continue to wonder what the problem with voting in WISCONSIN really is. Tell me, please - write your comment – I’ll be reading. My own research tells me the GOAL of the law is REALLY to create barriers to VOTING! What a contrast to our usual WI PROGRESSIVE tradition which seeks to make VOTING UNIVERSAL among ALL US citizens!

The issue of felons voting illegally is a “red herring” to my mind. I know the technical reason that causes some felons to vote – the REAL issue, as I see it, is that OUR WI STATE CORRECTIONS DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES do NOT conscientiously follow-through with the paperwork to restore the FRANCHISE! Let’s deal with the REAL problem! If it isn't broken, don't FIX it! What do YOU think?

WI is a key “BATTLEGROUND STATE”! Witness the tsunami-like wave of campaign stops by all four of the TOP OF THE TICKET candidates: Obama and Biden. Romney and Ryan. If you are interested in more information with incisive analysis, I recommend that YOU read Craig Gilbert’s “Wisconsin Voter” feature articles in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He has done several features analyzing WI as a BATTLEGROND STATE. The latest was “Battleground states have little in common, except they’re in play.”

The "Wisconsin Voter" feature I found incisive was “Politically, some parts of state swing wildly.”

The list of “Wisconsin Voter” features published over the last few months will be found at the bottom of the online article. Use one of the links above and scroll down to “ARCHIVES.”

As of right now, as I am ready to put this post on my WE THE PEOPLE blog, the COUNTDOWN TO ELECTION DAY – November 6, 2012 from the GAB website is: “4 Days – 23 Hours – 28 Minutes – 22 Seconds.”

Here we go…

I think John Eyster must have been a teacher when some of these people were in school. He must have caught them smoking in the boys room or something and they are thinking this blog is their chance to get even. This is enjoyable stuff here, good comic relief, some of it is.

I agree, Eagle1, many act like it is a sporting event of some sort. They don't even see the issues, just whose "team" they think should win.

you idiots treat this election like it is a football game, just once I would like to see someone actually look at what damage both of these guys are proposing and see how continuing to back it is not only destructive it is insane.

Aww, FedUp, I never insinuated this was my blog. Did I insult your little buddy? I can only assume you're just stressed out because your guy is going to lose next Tuesday and you know it.

It's OK, keep insulting people by telling them they should be scrubbing latrines intead of sticking to the facts. Typical GOP behavior.

Rick Raff, get a life! This is a comment section, not a forum to interact with the blogger. Seriously, who keeps checking back in on a comment section like that?

Rick - The answer to your question as to why it is a good thing that the court ruled as it did: I'll type this real slow for you, the state constitution doesn't allow it! Even if it did this is such a red herring that I can't believe it takes up so much time. People voting other peoples name are not the things that have been prosecuted. What has been prosecuted, has been felons voting that are still on parole. Voter Id wouldn't have caught that. Felons can vote after they are off parole. The fraudulent voter that does seem to have gotten away with fraud, is Robin Voss' estranged wife who lives in Idaho and voted in Wis. No one seems to be doing any thing about that.

eagle...I voted last Wednesday and DID NOT have to show an ID of any kind. You might want to update your information.
feduptaxpayer....anytime you want to compare educational levels or annual income, give me a ring. I have learned that when people resort to name calling the argument is over, and the caller has lost. Enjoy the next four years under President Obama. I know I will.

Speaking of "disenfranchised", I feel disenfranchised in that not only do I have to pay property taxes including school taxes in Wisconsin but buy out-of-state liscenses (hunting, fishing, state park stickers, etc.) .. I AM ALSO NOT ALLOWED TO designate my school taxes to go to the Janesville and Milton schools where my grandchildren attend. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT, J.E.?

I have the fortune or misforune of having property in both Illinois and Wisconsin. Unable to sell the Illinois property without practically giving it away so did not. The last 4 years have only worsened that situation instead of improved in in the area my house is at. More foreclusures in neighborhood. Working out okay though thankfully. Still an Illinois resident and kids and grandkids are down that way. HOWEVER, I believe if I wished to, I could vote in Wisconsin with little difficulty. I have utility bills and property tax bills from months and years ago with the Wisconsin address. As I read the paper, it seems all I would have to do is take them to my local Wisconsin clerk, register, and vote. He/she would never know that I already voted absentee in Illinois. I am very tempted just to help show how stupid I think it is not to have to show ID but won't because it would not be ethical as well as not legal. One person, one vote .... although depending on which state you are in (about 40 of them) your one vote does not mean squat except perhaps in local elections. BTW ... I had hoped to end up with just one residence in Wisconsin but really not ready to become a citizen of this state anymore after all of the crap from both sides since 2010.

Lets see how voter fraud works, Obama has hundreds of $ millions pouring into his campaign from overseas donors.
Most are untraceable donations under $199. Even a dead Osama Bin Laden was able to donate to Obama twice. Blocking the deployed Military vote. Intimidations like the Black Panthers. Illegals voting, dead voters,Dual residents duplicate voting (college students),Samali votes bussed in to early vote in Ohio by unions, rigged voting machines via SEIU who hold maintenance contracts on them, voters across state lines with fraudulent rent leases and on and on. And the Dems worry about the Repubs commiting voter fraud. Priceless.

Perhaps Eyesore needs to take a lesson from obuma...who DID have to show his ID for early voting...If its good enough for the president, it should be good enough for all libs.

Johnnyrerb, haven't you noticed?? Most libs. think they are above us. Even though most of their programs are a disaster. I've had three kids go through Eyster's class and the result. They're all voting for Obama. What a shame.

The only thing that is lunacy about the voter ID law is that it is being prevented by lunatic liberals such as yourself eyster! You have to show an ID to cash a check or get money out of your own savings account, buy smokes or alcahol, some medical clinics require an ID before you can see a doctor, hell even food pantries require an an ID and proof of residency from the people who need to use them! Why shouldn't a person be required to show an ID to be able to vote???? Especially when the ID is free to people who can't afford them! Again you prove that you and other narrow minded people are part of the problem of what is wrong with the government it this country!!!!!!!!!!!

How about answering legitimate questions put to you for once eyster??????????? After all you think that you are such a great educator and have all of the answers, but yet, never do!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Could it be that you think that you are much better and smarter than the rest of us?!?!?!????

NVgrf, why are you not in an uproar over the voter ID laws in NV? I lived there for a few years and voted had to show ID, no biggie is it? Why is your old teacher friend John in such an uproar about the proposal of it here? I think others have illustrated there is no rational reason to oppose it, good distraction from the horrific presidency you guys support. Oh btw I am not voting Romney either, I have a brain and can see through the BS, it is too bad ‘educated’ people can’t.

What is irrational about proposed voter ID laws is the opposition to it, the excuses to oppose it are a joke, I have lived in states where you must show an ID, no big deal never heard of anyone ever being oppressed because of it and that was in poor areas and areas of large minorities. Here is a scenario and a very realistic one at that where a voter ID requirement would prevent fraud.

Let’s say a person who has the ability to forge utility bills, a beginner graphic designer can do that, it is simple, and that person knows of several people that will not vote, how difficult would it be if that person created forged utility bills in those peoples names and did same day registration under their names in their area polling places? I am sure the usual elderly volunteers wouldn’t be able to spot the forgery. That is just one scenario that would be extremely simple to pull off and extremely difficult to track. If you think voter fraud doesn’t happen I have a bridge to sell you.

One more quick thing if you are seriously enthusiastic about either Romney or Obama then you are more of the problem than either of those two, they are egomaniacs that want power, you buy their BS and give them more power while willing losing your own…. Insane.

Feduptaxpayer....You don't really believe that Rom/Ry will be sworn in next year do you?? If so, then you have had far too much Limbaugh,Hannity and other delusionals on your plate. It is one thing to be hopeful, it is quite another to be living in an alternate universe.
John: I will promise Nevada, if you can promise Wisconsin. I notice that the President is flying from Green Bay to Vegas. Very appropriate.

Unfortunately the title to this article "COUNTDOWN to ELECTION DAY!" means about as much as a headline titled "COUNTDOWN to a MISSPELLING BEA" (as in the winner will be the person that can do the best job of butchering the correct spelling of a word)
This years campaign has reached an all time low in flat out lies. Call them what you want, but they are just plain LIES. And BOTH parties are to blame. If these were adds advertising a product to buy, they would be sued for libel...
I voted early, so to me I am just watching these last days in disgust.
And no, neither candidate bought my vote, even though this campaign will spent ~2 BILLION dollars on these lies....where are our priorities ???
Two Billion Dollars would go a long way to helping our homeless, jobless, schools, and crumbling infrastructure....
Hmmmm.....guess I got that off my chest huh..

Quote "I am very thankful that the courts have prevented the irrational VOTER PHOTO ID LAW from being used on this ELECTION DAY 2012! I continue to wonder what the problem with voting in WISCONSIN really is."End Quote
The problem, John, is voter fraud. 20 cases of voter fraud were prosecuted this year in Wisconsin. Many complaints of voter fraud were rejected in local districts by democratic prosecuters.
20 cases! So what is the threshold at which one would favor voter ID? 100? 1,000? 10,000?
Isn't this the party that has used "if it saves one life" to push unpopular legislation?
Lets face reality here. A majority of the people that would supposedly be "disenfranchised" by voter ID won't, don't, and haven't voted ever.
