“I want this election over – now” – do YOU?
“I want this election over – now” – do YOU?
Reading resources online this morning, my attention was grabbed by the headline on a CNN Opinion column, “I want this election over – now.” How do YOU feel about the long presidential campaign ahead?
I thought about the extremely long campaign of the US Presidential election when I posted the ELECTION DAY 2012 countdown feature on my WE THE PEOPLE blog yesterday. IF you want to see that countdown now, check it: “Today – Iowa Caucuses launch voting for US President” by LZ Granderson who posted the OpEd column already at 10:46 am EST yesterday. Now today we are down to 306 days and counting. We have the longest campaign season for US President of any campaign season for the head of state/chief executive office in the world! Does it really need to be so long?
“Story Highlights” for this column as posted by CNN are:
•LZ Granderson: 70% of Americans wish the election was over
•He says people aren't looking forward to 10 months of manipulative ads and pitches
•Politicians from President Obama on down compromise principles for political gain, he says
•Granderson: What gets lost in the battle? The best interests of the nation
Reviewing the news reports and the analyses with editorial and OpEd columns today with much interest and careful cogitation… look forward to sharing my evaluation of the 2011 IA Caucuses. What are YOUR evaluations - reactions?
Just think: 1-week from yesterday is the NEW HAMPSHIRE PRIMARY – the first PRIMARY in the US Presidential election process. If you want to learn more about the FIRST PRIMARY, check "2012 New Hampshire Primary" - the official state website.
YOU agree with the current projection that ROMNEY will win? US Senator John McCain is scheduled to endorse Romney today. Does this ENDORSEMENT mean much as you see it?
Here we go…

Hmm I wonder when the lost senator from nevada will start to do his job and let the senate vote on a national budget....no hurry I guess. +15 trillion in debt +100% of GDP, things must be just fine through the eyes of his supporters.

To me, it seems like "The Annointed One" has been in the campaign mode since his first day in office.

My only dread is the constant breaking down of the electorate. There's the evangelicals, the blacks, the hispanics, the libertarians, and on and on. It's not as if the people in these groups vote as a block.
Let's face it, short of a major or catastrophic event it will be Romney against Obama. The rest is just political theatre to bide the time until November.

A national primary in July or August would be nice. That way I can vote for the person I want instead of a choice of the people that Iowans liked. That disturbs me greatly.

McCain's endorsement of Romney will stir up feelings of ill-will amongst Republican hopefuls. It seems that the voters in the "anyone but Romney" camp will have no place to go on election day. It is sad that McCain hadn't run in this election year rather than the previous one. It is also sad that "Run again Ron Paul" could not unseat the Romney juggernaut. I wonder which way the political winds will be blowing for lesser office holders like Walker and Ryan. Political obscurity can be a very comfortable office to hold until one retires. But what of the cost to the hard-working taxpayers? One can bet that the professional politicians won't be be hearing us after the election but they will be listening to lobbyists. Where will you vote citizen?

Yes, I wish the election was tomorrow and we could get on with other things besides the Republican shenigans. Are they having these debates weekly? Sure seems like it.

I am among those who wish the election was already over. I would be more apt to be excited about it if we spent times talking about real issues, realistic solutions, and hard data. I couldn't care less about who the candidate's wife is or how trusdtworthy is his dog. If it's not a real issue pertaining to working towards the good of the people, I am not at all interested in hearing about it.

If you take any stock in the "polls". We would then have a republican president today. As far as Mitt Romney goes I am fairly confident he could beat President Obama in a general election (with the help of the RNC and if President Obama continues to campaign rather than govern), but I am not convinced he is the best man for the job. I am actually waiting to see who will be the running mates for both the republican nominee and President Obama before I make a choice.
