Bucca Boxing
Far Right: SSG Allen is the Supply Sergeant for Co A 132D BSB, stationed at FOB Bucca. He writes: My duties include the daily assistance of my fellow Soldiers in ensuring they have everything they need to do their mission during this deployment. I ensure that all the Soldiers clothing needs are met through an on-line ordering system, so the Soldiers are able to replace their uniform items that have become ripped, torn or in need of replacement. My other duties include ordering items through the Supply system, from office supplies to tools, and to ensure that all Soldiers have their required amount of ammunition for security. I am also one of many “Fire Inspectors” who inspects living quarters to keep our Soldiers safe from any fire hazards.
In addition I am also charged with inspecting all Fuel Areas on the FOB (Forward Operating Base) to ensure all safety practices and accountability are being adhered to. My off-duty time includes being involved with the monthly “Bucca Boxing” tournament on the main stage. As soon as I heard about the opportunity to get involved, I jumped at it. I used to box in my younger days, so the attraction here was evident. So, once a month, I am one of 3 judges for Bucca Boxing. I’m hoping to actually be able to get into the ring before my tour here at FOB Bucca is complete.
Center: MSG Wayne Trelka of A CO 132 BSB stationed at Camp Bucca. He writes: I work as the NCOIC (Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge) of the Theater Internment Facility hospital security force. My daily duties include perimeter checks, inventory and accountability of all keys, and other items used on a daily basis by the security force.
During my off time I help with the judging of the monthly boxing matches at Camp Bucca, Iraq. The enjoyment of judging comes from determining the winner in close matches when both contestants are putting forth their best effort.
Some of my other hobbies include reading James Patterson’s novels and a book about Camp Bucca, titled “Sunset Tales from the New Iraq.” The book is written from a detainee point of view on how he sees the Americans during his time at Camp Bucca. I try to read a book every tour that relates to the current events in the country. During my last tour I read, “One Bullet Away” the story is about a young marine touring in Iraq. Another past time for me is to watch the Milwaukee Brewers on the local network, I can’t wait for football season to start for some more entertainment and break up the long days.
Left: SSG Chad Olson is the Sergeant of the Guard, in charge of the Detainee Guard Force at the Internment Holding Area, Camp Bucca Iraq. He writes: My duties include the training, placement, and oversight of the Guard Force responsible for the care and custody of all Detainees processing out of the Camp Bucca Theater Internment Facility. Additionally, I am assigned as the Logistics Non-Commissioned Officer for the Camp Bucca Facility Engineering Team. In my off time, I enjoy reading, going to the gym, and have assisted the Bucca Boxing program as a referee and assistant judge. I am currently training for a belt contention fight this fall.
