What's the damage, Heather
I made a quick and muddy trip to the garden this afternoon. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it was bad enough.
The good news is we just installed tomato cages this weekend. We were a month late on that chore, but man am I glad we did it.
My sunflowers look pretty tough, and the beans are all on their sides. But little seems to be broken.
I propped some things up the best I could. Do I need to keep trying, or will they lift themselves upright? Will I make it worse? Should I continue worrying about it?

Thanks for your comments, folks.
Please remember that if you are looking for hard news, you will not find it in this blog. News goes in the newspaper and in the "news" section of the website.
Here is a link to the news story about Monday morning's storm.

Why would anyone want to make a writer feel bad about a short story about her garden? There are a number of people in Janesville who have small gardens who can relate to this story. One can write story after story about the weather and it does not change a thing.

As usual I am extremely disappointed in Ms Ames's representation and reporting efforts on the agriculture and farming community. There is unbelievable crop damage in this area, and the only thing you could think to write about was your tomato's??? Your post was at 2 pm...plenty of time to hit the road and talk to an area farm or farmer affected by the storm. Your blog is a waste of time to read.

We asked about crop damage and reported what we could gather on the day of the storm for today's paper's storm story. I would venture a guess that the sky is not falling, but time will tell the actual extent of crop damage. Patience.

Interestingly, still no stories about the crop damage surrounding this city, which will cost local farmers $$$, but we get an article on someones very minor damage to a garden....
Go figure

good neighbors still exist.
i live on the south side and about six homes were still without power at six monday evening when one of the homes nearby let us run an extension cord to their garage to plug in our refrigerator so we wouldnt lose all the perishables in them. Three cheers for a good samaritan
