Keeping Rock Around the Block
Do you support Janesville’s Rock Around the Block music festival? This event, held the last Sunday in August on North Main Street, has grown the past eight years. Do you see it as an attractive event for the community or little more than a license to drink in public?
Rumors were flying recently that this year’s event was canceled. In a Gazette story Wednesday, Matt Schreier, long a dedicated member of the planning committee, denied that and said organizers are trying to do whatever they can to keep this event.
Later Wednesday, a new post on Facebook provided an update. It stated that this year’s Rock Around the Block will move to October and partner with Janesville’s new Irish Fest for a Main Street event Oct. 6. It will be called Sham-Rock Around the Block and be designed to support the communitywide festival.
Does this make sense? Do you appreciate organizers’ efforts in recent years to make Rock Around the Block more family friendly by offering children’s activities and games?
We’ll share our perspectives in our editorial Friday.
