What’s value in new UW-Rock program?
Options for higher education continue to grow for people in Janesville and Rock County.
In recent years, UW-Rock County in Janesville began offering four-year engineering degrees in cooperation with UW-Platteville. Then it started offering four-year nursing degrees in a joint program with UW-Oshkosh and nearby Blackhawk Technical College. This week, it announced it will unveil a new bachelor of applied arts and sciences degree starting this fall.
What will this mean to local residents, area businesses and economic development potential? We’ll share our perspectives in our editorial Saturday.

It would have been greatly useful to me 30 years ago. My family could not afford to pay for room and board in addition to tuition, so I went to years to U-Rock and commuted 2 years and a summer to Whitewater, with my weekly part time job earnings paying for the gas and car maintenance. If I had been able to take even more of the course work in Janesville, I might have been able to take more credits at once while working a little less and still have a little in savings to start out after college. It's a great idea, and people should take every advantage of it they can.

Sounds GREAT ! Nice chance for folks in their mid fifties who need a little brushing up to get a new job when they are put out to pasture or for those who are working for a company that is on the verge of becoming obsolete.
