Housing market looking up
As Jim Leute reported in last Sunday’s Gazette, local real estate agents sold more homes at a higher average price last year than in 2011. The South Central Wisconsin Multiple Listing Service reported sales of 1,774 Rock County homes last year, up 17 percent compared to 2011. The average sale price last year was $110,180—up 16 percent.
Will the growth continue? What does this growth in sales and average selling price mean for families in Rock County, the local tax base and our economy in general?
We’ll share our perspectives in our editorial Sunday.

What was the average sale price of a home in Janesville 8 years ago? What was the average income per household? What was the average tax assessed? Are we really better off than at that time? Optimism is great for those who can afford it.
