A great weekend for yard work
I saw a rare bird Friday evening in this long-delayed Wisconsin springóa guy mowing his lawn. I got our mower tuned up and running a week ago, but I have yet to use it. I think I clipped the lawn twice in March of 2012. I didnít have to mow yet this weekend, and so our first go-round won't happen until May. What a difference.
Cheryl and I did spend much of the weekend in the yard, however. I retrieved one set of hoses from the basement, scrubbed the mildew off the back deck and got the deck furniture down from the garage attic (with Cherylís help). I then cleaned up and positioned the table and chairs. Meanwhile, Cheryl was busy reseeding two terraces with too-thin grass. She did more lawn patching and preliminary garden work on Sunday, while I raked half of the lawn and listened to mowers roaring in the neighborhood. Cheryl also made a run for more supplies at a local garden center and was surprised to find it crowded with customers. The ground seemed quite dry despite all the recent rains, and as I raked I wondered how many farmers might have found their fields dry enough to work.
Meanwhile, neighbors across the street spent the weekend installing a new patio and nearly completing the job. It looks nice.
Cheryl and I thought about getting out for our first golf outing late Sunday afternoon, but we decided instead to give our aching muscles a break and relax with a beer on the back deck, before the evening air got too cool.
What about you? Did you tackle some long-delayed yard chores?
