Why was Walker named Governor of Year?

By GREG PECK ( Contact )   Tuesday, January 3, 2012 - 1:53 p.m.

As 2011 ended, United Wisconsin was closing in on the signatures needed to trigger a recall of Gov. Scott Walker. No doubt, it mattered little to his critics and the union-led recall drive that Walker was named Governor of the Year.

Governors Journal gave Walker that little-publicized honor.

The recognition, without question, will confound his critics.

Walker, Governors Journal explained in a website story announcing the selection Dec. 23, “served as the embodiment of the state-by-state battle to balance budgets and the best symbol of the struggle between the two political parties about how best to meet those fiscal challenges.”

Does Governors Journal provide reasonable justification for giving this honor to the Republican Walker? Is the honor no big deal?

We’ll share our perspectives in our editorial Wednesday.

I imagine that he was voted "Governor of the Year" in the same way that Time has "Person of the Year": namely, not to applaud the person, necessarily, but to show their influence. He has had a massive and devastating influence, which is why all his out-of-state friends send him the big bucks.

Democrats are hard at work trying to convince 50.1% of voters that the other 49.9% owe them a living. Even if the recall works that is not the end. Remember that Churchill was recalled right after he saved Britian. And of course a few years later they had to bring him back. Democrat policies in Wisconsin are a proven failure. If they were to regain power they would have to adopt massive tax increases. The cycle would continue and Walker or someone like him would soon be back in office. In the long haul things will work out. The market aways wins and socialism fails.

Bold, unafraid, and have only Wisconsin's best interest in mind. We the majority - still the majority appreciate his efforts.
Recall signatures? pointless in the bigger picture of 2012 elections to recall Obama and dictorial socialism big government.

Youkillme – I think you nailed it. Not a word in the editorial about the history of this tiny fake right wing organization (they did take a shot at the critics of the award by acknowledging that Pagani is a Republican but then basically saying that was irrelevant). The low information people will accept it as a legitimate organization and use it as a huge success story for Gov. Walker. The Gazette editorial board made a huge omission in the editorial – I suspect an intentional omission.
.
McLuvn – I think I will from now on refer to this as the “Leg Lamp Award”. Feel free to do the same as I am sure the right wing will hype this to no end.

Because he is... all you recall people are living in the dark. I see why most of America is in debt...they all think like the recall people. I think if anyone has any debt or bad credit they should not be allowed to vote for elections and especially not be allowed in this recall vote.

No longer can the unions fill their pockets on the backs of Wisconsin school boards and local taxpayers. I'm talking about the WEA Health Insurance trust.
http://washingtonexaminer.com/politics/2...

Schools now are saving a ton of money. This means the school boards have a better chance to save teachers jobs and fund schools.
Except for Janesville. That contract was rushed through last year. Looks like who ever negotiated that deal was lookin out after the unions best interest, not the taxpayer.
The more I read about Governor Walkers first year in office, the more I like him.

I agree that this award, as it is called has no merit with the govenors journal being new and right wing, but do not bash the gazette for reporting stories as they get them. Do you think a left wing journal is going to give a republican the award. I guess you guys just have nothing better to write about. Why don't all you guys go get into a chat room and discuss your agreements together. I have said this in other postings, it is better to keep your mouth shut and have people think that you are stupid, rather then opening your mouth and proving it beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Readers: Please do some research on this one!!! The Governors Journal is a bogus publication spun by a lone wolf right winger, Dean Pagani. It has no editorial staff, no board of directors and absolutely no credibility among true non-partisan groups. For the Gazette to post this article certainly shows where their political leanings are.

This link http://ctyr.blogspot.com/2007_07_08_arch... lists “Media Attache” under “Republican Blogs” about half-way down the right side of the web page. If you go to that website http://mediaattache.blogspot.com/ you will see that is is owned operated by one Dean C. Pagani. Another instance of fair and balanced :)

This won't be an "article", but an opinion piece. Whomever writes/approves the Gazette opinions is most certainly pro-Walker. Simply reporting that Walker won an "award" gives it more credibility than it deserves.

The Governor's Journal - never heard of it so I looked it up.....and a few things I found last week.
.
Governors Journal is now officially a year old - launched in mid-December 2010. http://governorsjournal.com/2011/12/gojo...
There is a very strong bias in their articles leaning toward the right wing governors.
Dean C. Pagani, Managing Editor http://governorsjournal.com/about/
.
From WikiPedia I found that Pagani served for eight years as Director of Communications and Chief of Staff to Governor John Rowland of Connecticut (Republican) and served as a senior adviser to the gubernatorial campaign of Tom Foley (Republican), the former U.S. Ambassador to Ireland. Unfortunately, I cannot find Pagani in WikiPedia today – rather strange.
.
Interesting thing about Gov. Rowland that I found in Wikipedia.....”John Grosvenor Rowland (born May 24, 1957 in Waterbury, Connecticut) was the 86th Governor of Connecticut from 1995 to 2004; he is a member of the Republican Party. He is married to Patty Rowland, his second wife, and the couple have five children between them. In 2004, Rowland resigned from office during a corruption investigation, and later pleaded guilty in federal court to a one-count indictment for conspiracy to commit honest services fraud, mail fraud and tax fraud.”
.
The Governors Journal appears to me to be a web site that was created by Republican operatives after the conservative Republican governors won in November, 2010. I suspect the goal was to promote these new right wing governors and give very prestigious awards to the most right wing governor of the bunch.
.
This may be a “very prestigious award” similar to the Leg Lamp that Ralphie's dad won in “A Christmas Story”.

Here is a quote from the G.A.B. website. I think many people believe just because the required amount of signatures are collected the Governor will be removed from office. This is not the case. "Recall gives voters the right to reconsider their choice of an elected official; however, it does not automatically result in removal of an official from office. It provides an opportunity for voters to require an elected official to run for office again before the expiration of his or her term".

There is more information at this website.

MOC0428...Most probably do not know why they are trying to recall him, except for the fact that they are sheep, and sheep follow the crowd. Of course, that's the same reason he was elected in the first place. People have no clue about how the government works these days, and that's how the government wants it. partisanship, straight line voting, sheep sheep sheep.

MOC0428-

The reasons for the recall are as varied as the people signing the petitions. The state constitution does not require a "legal" reason for the recall. A recall can be for any reason as long as the office holder is in office for at least a year. It is an additional check on those who govern. I am thankful it is there. Regardless of whether you feel it is proper, well over 500k feel it is. Each one of their voices is as valid as yours. It's not wasting money; it's democracy in action, just as valid as voting in an election.

I think your article explains precisely why he was chosen. I imagine like any other top honor from a publication it means more to him than anyone else. While the title may be dubious the recognition is the reward.
