Why HealthNet’s dental clinic is crucial

By GREG PECK ( Contact )   Wednesday, February 22, 2012 - 2:43 p.m.

Do you know someone in Janesville who has been served by HealthNet of Rock County’s dental clinic at 1344 Creston Park Drive, or perhaps has donated time or money to the clinic?

Why do so many people go without proper dental care until they’re in desperate need? How does lack of proper oral care affect their overall health? How will a second room planned at HealthNet’s dental clinic improve the situation and brighten the smiles of more people in Janesville?

And how can you help?

We’ll answer these questions and share our perspectives in our editorial Thursday.

I had to go there. I was insulted, the dentist was extremely rude and BANNED me because I told him so and would not let this rude man touch me. The Dentist I had prior to him was great, nice guy. But this man banned me and today I sit in pain, BIG pain, because of his ego. I honestly do not know what to do about it, people. Being poor is not my choice but do I really have to take such treatment to be treated properly?

ImJustSayin: I consider myself lucky too and have also been in the situation of not having medical or dental insurance. You inspired me to follow suit. I made a small donation. And you're right, it was painless.

Anyone else care to join us?

I've had my ups and downs with dental care. Good care during childhood thanks to mom and dad. During my 20s no care. I had dental insurance in my 30s, and made up for my 20s (ouch). During the last ten years in my 40's it was all out of pocket cash, but I never missed a 6 month appointment. Recently I switched jobs and now I have dental insurance once again.
I consider myself lucky.
How can we help? The Gazette had a link to Healthnet's website yesterday, and I found donating to be "painless", although Paypal took it's chunk.
How many households are there in Janesville, 20K or so?
20K X $10 = $200,000
That would be a start, right?
I'm just sayin'...
