Does Walker have any hopes of creating 250,000 jobs?
During his gubernatorial election campaign, Scott Walker pledged to create 250,000 jobs during his four-year term. To that end, he called two special sessions on job creation to help improve our business climate.
Last week, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that Wisconsin added just 5,500 positions in the past year—far fewer than our neighboring states.
Last week in La Crosse, Walker touted efforts to balance the budget, hold down taxes and enact tort reforms—all to make our state more business friendly. He plans more moves to limit regulations.
Is the bleak jobs report all Gov. Walker’s fault? What more, if anything, could he be doing?
We’ll share our perspectives in our editorial Tuesday.

I noticed that when you shut down the left with a cold hard fact, they have nothing.
Thank you Bowlgal for the reminder that Obama promised us no more than 8% unemployment and that was 3 years ago.
Walker has had one.... so far...

I for one would like to know where are all the jobs for the country. Gov. Walker set a number that Democrats like to hold him to. But, Pres. Obama also promised us unemployment would not reach 8% to get his stimulus which we have since learned went to the states like Wis. under Doyle to pay for the bloated public sector payroll. Which in turn payed for unions which in turn has held our state hostage.
I'd like to challenge the Democrats on this site to explain that for the 3 years of Obama. Still not under 8%

Life in Wisconsin is much like life in the Army or any other branch of the military: Lots of complaining and griping. When I became an NCO I told my subordinates that I did not necessarily know the fix to each and every problem that confronted us. I told the chronic gripers to suggest valid solutions instead of just filling the air with more empty, polarizing rhetoric. Only then might we accomplish something.
. . . . .
Most of us bloggers, Red-Blue-or-Independent, are like those G.I.s that could only crab about things. Do you really, REALLY, believe that ANY governor achieves the post and has “...all the solutions...”? Bollocks!
. . . . .
What say “you” return to this site and state one “doable” solution and how to implement it. Then write a real letter to the Your Views, telling of your proposed solutions, and don’t hide behind your pen name. Better yet, also inform us unenlightened readers of which Assembly or State Senate folks you sent your letter to so that they might be armed with insight they may have lacked. {I.e.: I wrote a letter stating my views on Concealed Carry and sent it to Every Assemblyman and Senator. How about you?]
. . . .
It’s so much easier to spout the Party or Union talking points, and continue to create more hard feelings, distrust & jealousy of neighbors and (former?) friends. So easy to cite only portions of someone's quote and used that for your (sometimes uninformed / ignorant purposes). Keep picking the scab. Do nothing else. See what you accomplish.

Well let's see, Obama has not created 250,000 in the entire country in over three year. Gov. Walker in one year has to combat Obama's administration along with the other sour grape liberals who don't believe in free and fair elections. As soon as the recalls fail and the 2012 elections produce a GOP landslide, we will carry on forward as a state and a country.

Greg, In the Gazette (paper) you noted the the surrounding states, MI.,IL.,IA. and MN have all had better job growth the Wisconsin. Yet you say Wisconsins growth has nothing to do with Walker's choices and philosophy, but the national economy. I agree a Gov. can only do so much but how do you explain the surrounding states job growth? Are they not part of this nation also? He ran on creating jobs and for what ever reason his philosophy on how to do this is not working as well as our neighbors. You also noted that the protests may hinder new bussinesses relocaiting to Wisconsin. Well, I do not recall any protests before he came to office. So that is on him and his choice to tactics.

Creating new jobs? Where are they? I need one that I'm qualified to do. I'm a county worker joining the unemployed ranks of others by the end of the month thanks to the "tools" Gov. Walker gave the counties to work with - slashed budgets and busted unions. Yeah, I can see where the property taxes are going up for the people who own homes. I have friends who are telling me the same story. I'm a renter who is also affected with rent increases, so matter how you live these taxes will get you - landlords have to pass it on so they can make the property tax bill too! This Gov. needs to go fast. We can not pull out of this budget problem overnight as anyone knows who has handled their own financial problems - you have to have a plan - not everything at once and make your biggest strike at the public employees. He's angered a lot of people in this state with his attitude. It was the biggest reason why I signed the petition. Jobs maybe listed on websites to apply for, but try and get the chance to interview and get the job. Then find a full time job for the single person is whole different story. When you're in a vocation/trade it becomes even tougher.

Why is it that the Democrats say President Obama has only had three years but are unwilling to give Governor Walker one year. It is my humble opinion that President Obama has had the same time that Reagan had and the economy under Reagan thrived on conservative ideas to the economy under Obama has tanked and gotten worse.
Governor Walker has inherited a mess from Doyle (as the democrats) always cry with Bush and he is fighting that battle and trying to do it in an Obama failed Federal interference policies.
I am for the first time looking forward to voting in 2012 to change the Presidency and thus Gov. Walker can get the help along with other states to clean up the messes on the state level and bring back jobs.

Walker and his campaign pledge/promise/statement however you want to spin it was NEVER even an afterthought. All of you that ate that up and voted for him based on that, you truly are suckers.
Just goes to show you that governing is a lot different than campaigning. Ask Barak Obama. Funny thing is that I believe that Scott Walker may be a part of what gets him re-elected, along with the WORST group of candidates ever fielded by a political party.
If the left would "get out of the way" he would be well on his way? Maybe you should use "blue" text when your type your articles, Greg. Governor Walker made a "pledge" to create jobs in Wisconsin. He did not "promise" he could get it done. He like many other Governors who are trying to create jobs are at the mercy of failed policy and over regulation at the federal level. I can't imagine how anyone in their right mind would take a chance on starting a new business or expanding an existing business during a recession (yes, we are in a recession). The sad part is we will be lucky, no matter who is our next President is to see any real change in the employment statistics in the next 5 or 6 years. Creating a million jobs here or there will not put the 17 or 18 million people back to work. Major tax reform is the only way to put Americans back to work.
